FAQ

What is the best GPU server for rendering?

The optimal server is a matter of your project requirements. A server that has an NVIDIA RTX 6000 Ada Generation is best suited to large and complex scenes that need a lot of VRAM. A multi-GPU configuration using NVIDIA A100 or H100 cards is the best option to achieve the fastest render times on cinematic-quality work.

Can I run Octane/Redshift/Blender on your GPU server?

Yes, absolutely. All the major GPU render engines such as Octane, Redshift, Blender (Cycles), V-Ray, and Arnold are fully compatible with our servers. You are free to install and configure your required software.

How do I choose between single-GPU and multi-GPU setups?

Select a single-GPU configuration when you want to work on a smaller project, during look development, or on a more constrained budget. Choose a multi-GPU configuration when speed of final rendering is paramount, since performance increases with each GPU added, reducing animation and high-resolution still render times by dramatic margins.

Is there a minimum rental period?

No, it does not have a long-term commitment. We have flexible billing where you can rent our servers on an hourly basis or on a monthly basis depending on how long you want to use our servers.

Can I install my own rendering software?

Yes. You have complete root or administrator access to your dedicated server. This will allow you to install any rendering software, plugins, custom scripts or applications that your workflow needs without restrictions.

What’s the difference between GPU cloud and dedicated server rendering?

A GPU cloud is usually a virtualized, shared resource and performance may vary with other users (the noisy neighbor effect). With a dedicated server, you are guaranteed 100 percent exclusive access to all the physical resources (CPU, RAM and GPUs) and can therefore enjoy consistent, predictable and maximum performance at all times.

Are there any bandwidth limits for transferring large files?

Our servers are optimized for large data transfer and are provided with a high-speed connection (e.g., 1 Gbps port). Majority of the plans have unlimited bandwidth or a very high monthly traffic limit, which means you can upload your assets and download your final renders without having to worry about overage charges.

What Is a GPU Rendering Server?

A GPU rendering server is a high performance computer, which can be accessed remotely, and is stuffed with powerful Graphics Processing Units (GPUs). These servers are designed to speed up the process of rendering images and animations out of 3D models unlike a standard computer that uses a CPU to carry out most of the tasks. You can also take the rendering load off your local machine and gain dramatic performance increases by pushing the rendering workload to dedicated, enterprise-grade hardware.

CPU vs GPU rendering: What’s the difference?

The main distinction is their architecture. A CPU (Central Processing Unit) possesses a small number of powerful cores that are optimized to work sequentially one at a time. A GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) on the other hand is made up of thousands of smaller more efficient cores that are capable of processing multiple tasks at once. This parallel processing power means that GPUs are extremely quick at the repetitive computations needed to render, including lighting, shadows and textures.

How GPU servers improve rendering speed and output

A GPU rendering server can process huge volumes of data simultaneously by utilizing the power of thousands of cores simultaneously. This leads to:

  • Significantly shorter render times: The time spent on a CPU can be done in minutes.
  • Better quality previews: Test more quickly with almost immediate feedback of your modifications.
  • Complex scene handling: Rendering of high resolution images and complex geometries without crashing the system.

Ideal projects for GPU-based rendering (VFX, architecture, animation)

A GPU rendering server is ideal in any project that requires photorealistic imagery and fast iteration. This includes:

  • VFX and Film: The production of realistic special effects and CGI characters.
  • Architecture: Designing beautiful architectural visualizations of buildings and interiors.
  • Animation: Complex character and environmental animation.
  • Product Design: Creating realistic product mockups and marketing material.

Why Use a Dedicated GPU Server for Rendering

Relocating your rendering workload to a dedicated server is more than an upgrade, it is a paradigm shift in your production pipeline. It offers the power, scalability, and efficiency required by contemporary creative projects.

Faster render times and real-time feedback

Think of completing your projects early. This is possible with the use of a dedicated GPU rendering server that reduces render time by days to hours, or hours to minutes. This pace enables more innovative iterations and experimentation, resulting in an improved end product. The preview of changes is practically instantaneous, and creative decisions are made with confidence.

Multi-GPU configurations for parallel processing

Our servers may be fitted with several top-of-the-line GPUs, which are collaborating to render your scenes. This multi-GPU configuration scales near-linearly. When one GPU is fast, four are revolutionary. Such parallel processing capability is needed to address ultra-high-resolution frames and intricate visual effects that would not be possible on a single-GPU system.

Cost-efficiency vs local workstations

It is costly to construct and sustain a high-end local workstation with multiple GPUs. The initial hardware expense is high not to mention the power, cooling and maintenance costs that are incurred on a continuous basis. A rendering dedicated GPU server is a more economical alternative:

  • No upfront investment: Pay a known monthly or hourly rate.
  • Latest hardware access: We take care of the hardware upgrades and you always have access to the best GPUs.
  • Low operating expenses: Lower electric and cooling expenses.

What Is a GPU Server for Rendering?

A rendering GPU server is a high performance computer which is extremely specialized to exponentially boost the speed of generating digital images and animations. It takes advantage of the vast parallel processing power of a number of professional-grade GPUs to compute complex lighting, texturing and geometry calculations many times faster than a typical CPU-based system.

CPU vs GPU rendering: key differences

The first distinction is the way they process tasks.

  • CPU (Central Processing Unit): Some very powerful cores that are focused on one, sequential task. Good at general computing, slow at rendering.
  • GPU (Graphics Processing Unit): Parallel work of thousands of smaller cores. This architecture is specifically designed to render and thus can handle millions of calculations at a time.

How GPU rendering servers accelerate workflows

Artists and designers can keep working on their local computers as rendering is offloaded to a dedicated server. The better hardware of the server finishes renders much faster, allowing more iterations, experimentation, and faster project turnarounds.

Benefits of using dedicated GPU hardware for rendering

  • Unparalleled Speed: Render tasks that would require days are done in hours.
  • Better Quality: Support bigger and more complicated scenes at higher resolutions and sophisticated effects.
  • Greater Productivity: Free up your local workstation and get feedback nearly in real time.
  • Cost-Effectiveness: Get access to world-class hardware without the expensive ownership and maintenance cost.

Optimized RAM and CPU for parallel processing

A potent GPU is not the whole story. Our graphics cards are combined with high-frequency multi-core CPUs (Intel Xeon, AMD EPYC) and enormous volumes of high-speed ECC RAM. This makes sure that data is fed to the GPUs without causing any delay and keeping them busy at all times.

Storage performance for large render projects

Massive files and textures are used in large projects. Our servers have enterprise grade NVMe SSD storage with read/write speeds that are orders of magnitude faster than SSD or HDD drives. This implies that your scenes, assets, and frame buffers will load in a second, with minimal downtime.

Compatible Software and Render Engines

We have a flexible platform. We make sure that it is compatible with the tools you are already using, so there is a smooth transition and an instant productivity increase.

Blender, Cinema 4D, Maya, Houdini compatibility

Our servers are prepared to support whatever your 3D application of choice. We support fully all major DCC applications, such as:

  • Blender
  • Maxon Cinema 4D
  • Autodesk Maya & 3ds Max
  • SideFX Houdini
  • And many more.

Popular GPU-accelerated engines – Octane, Redshift, V-Ray

Get the best out of your favorite render engine. All major GPU-based renderers are optimized on our servers:

  • OTOY OctaneRender
  • Maxon Redshift
  • Chaos V-Ray
  • Autodesk Arnold
  • LuxCoreRender

Plugin and script automation tools

Your administrative access is complete, so you can install any third-party plugin or custom script your workflow needs. Automate your render queue, use a project management tool such as Deadline or connect our servers to your current CI/CD pipeline to have fully automated rendering.

Use Cases for GPU Server Rendering

High-speed, remote rendering applications are unlimited. Our GPU server rendering services are relied upon by professionals in many different fields to create amazing, high quality imagery on very tight deadlines.

3D animation and film production

GPU servers are the foundation of the contemporary production pipeline, whether it is a short animated film or a blockbuster. Produce complex characters, detailed environments, and high fidelity lighting and effects at the speed necessary to meet production schedules.

Architectural and industrial visualization

Produce photorealistic walkthroughs, immersive VR, and beautiful marketing collateral. A GPU rendering server enables architects and designers to progressively refine their designs, and demonstrate to their clients how a space will appear and feel in a very realistic and detailed manner.

VFX pipelines, motion design, and simulation rendering

Create complicated particle simulations, fluid dynamics and explosive visual effects. To motion graphics artists, GPU servers offer the performance to render complex 3D objects and titles in 4K and beyond, with high-impact visuals in real-time, no wait.

Performance Benchmarks and Real-World Results

The figures are self explanatory. The performance gain that comes with migrating to a dedicated GPU server to render has a measurable improvement that can be directly translated into time and cost savings.

Render speed comparisons vs local setups

Our users see render speed improvements of 5x to 20x on average over their local workstations which are high-end. A 10-hour render that takes place overnight on a desktop render farm can take less than an hour on one of our multi-GPU servers.

Scalability for multi-GPU rendering farms

Want more power? We have infrastructure that enables you to scale to a multi-node render farm in an instant. Share frames among several servers in order to render full animation sequences within the time that it would take a local machine to render a single frame.

GPU load balancing and power efficiency

We have 24/7 systems. We provide the best load balancing among all GPUs to get the best performance and avoid thermal throttling. Our power efficiency is made possible by enterprise grade components in climate controlled data centers that cannot be matched in a home or office setting.

Choosing the Right GPU Rendering Server

Choosing the optimal server configuration is the most important step in getting the best value out of your investment. We simplify the process of locating the right performance and price to fit your particular needs.

GPU selection by use case and engine

  • In the case of Redshift & Octane: Select GPUs that include the most CUDA cores, such as the NVIDIA RTX.
  • In the case of V-Ray & Arnold: A high VRAM / core count is desirable. RTX 6000 Ada Generation is an excellent option.
  • Large Datasets & Simulations: The NVIDIA A100 or H100 has an unrivaled VRAM.

Memory and CPU considerations

Make sure that your server has at least twice as much RAM as the total VRAM of your GPUs. The high-core-count CPU is useful to handle pre-processing tasks and operating system management so that the GPUs never wait on data.

Storage, bandwidth, and remote access features

Fast scene loading requires NVMe SSDs. High-speed bandwidth is unmetered and allows file transfers to be smooth. Select a provider whose data center is close to you in order to have the lowest latency to have the best remote desktop.
