Rank Math for WordPress: Complete Plugin Review in 2026

server one
HOSTKEY

Rank Math was released in 2018 and has gained over 3 million active installations in just a few years — largely because the free version includes features that competitors charge for. Redirects, 404 error monitoring, advanced schema markup, and Google Analytics integration are all available without payment. In terms of download trends, Rank Math firmly holds second place after Yoast and continues to grow.

In this article, we will examine its features, pricing plans, and what sets it apart from competitors in detail.

Rank Math (SEO Plugin). Overview

Relatively New, but Popular

Rank Math was released in late 2018 as a product of the MyThemeShop team. The developers position it as the first SEO plugin with built-in artificial intelligence (AI). According to the plugin page on WordPress.org, it currently has 173 million total downloads. For a plugin that is not yet 10 years old, this is rapid growth.

In terms of downloads over the last 7 days, Rank Math (2,375,123) trails Yoast (4,660,283) but significantly outpaces AIOSEO (125,622). Rank Math's growth has been steady.

Free Version and Paid Plans

The free version includes a redirect manager, 404 error monitoring, integration with Google Analytics 4 and Google Search Console within WordPress, 16 types of schema markup, up to 5 keywords per post, automatic alt attributes for images, an llms.txt file generator, and multisite network support.

Current plans according to the Rank Math pricing page. The PRO plan costs $7.99 per month with annual billing (approximately $95.88 per year) and covers an unlimited number of personal sites with tracking for up to 500 keywords and 5,000 units for AI content generation (Content AI). The Business plan at $24.99 per month covers 100 client sites. The Agency plan at $54.99 per month expands the limit to 500 client sites. All plans include a 30-day money-back guarantee.

In practice, it looks like this. One personal site costs $95.88 per year. Five personal sites require the same $95.88. Ten personal sites remain at the same $95.88. For comparison, Yoast for 10 sites costs approximately €1,188 per year, and AIOSEO Pro for 10 sites costs $199.50.

An important caveat. The PRO plan applies to personal sites. For client sites, you will need the Business plan ($24.99 per month, up to 100 sites) or the Agency plan ($54.99 per month, up to 500 sites). Terms should be verified in the license agreement. All plans include a 30-day money-back guarantee.

Key Features

This plugin can offer:

  • Up to 5 keywords per post in the free version (competitors offer only 1).
  • 16 types of schema markup for free, including "Article," "FAQ," "HowTo," "Product," "LocalBusiness," and others.
  • Redirect manager (types 301, 302, 307, 410), available for free.
  • Free 404 error monitoring.
  • Built-in integration with Google Analytics 4 and Google Search Console.
  • Automatic alt attributes for images for free.
  • llms.txt file generator.
  • Modular architecture where each feature can be disabled independently.
  • Built-in one-click migration from Yoast, AIOSEO, and SEOPress.
  • Support for page builders Elementor, Divi, Oxygen Builder, WPBakery, and others.
  • Support for WordPress multisite networks (WPMU).

Performance

According to independent tests from 2026 (raadmeerblog.com, supawrite.com), Rank Math turned out to be the lightest of the three plugins considered. The codebase consists of approximately 61,000 lines (compared to 97,000 for Yoast). The folder size is about 12 megabytes (compared to 32 for Yoast). RAM consumption per request adds approximately 0.35 megabytes (compared to 1.62 for Yoast). The addition to load time varies from 0.01 to 0.09 seconds depending on the measurement method (compared to 0.18 for Yoast).

The modular architecture allows disabling unused features to get an even lighter plugin. This is particularly relevant on budget virtual hosting with limited RAM. The dashboard works faster than Yoast's, including on large sites with thousands of posts.

That said, a caveat: these figures were obtained under specific testing conditions. On a fast dedicated server with caching, the difference between plugins may be practically negligible.

Migration

Rank Math offers built-in one-click import from Yoast, AIOSEO, and SEOPress. You need to open Rank Math, go to the tools section, select import and export, specify the source, and start the process. Titles, descriptions, structured markup, and redirects are transferred. According to user reviews, the process takes a few minutes.

Leaving Rank Math is also not difficult. Both Yoast (since 2025) and AIOSEO support importing data from Rank Math via built-in tools.

Before any migration, it makes sense to create a database backup and record rankings for key pages. After the move, you should completely remove the old plugin, check the sitemap, and verify redirects. Ranking fluctuations usually stabilize within 2–4 weeks. If this does not happen, you can start by checking for duplicate metadata.

Pros

Best feature-to-cost ratio in the free version. The PRO plan covers an unlimited number of personal sites for a fixed price. The modular system allows disabling unused features and reducing server load. The codebase is lighter than Yoast's. Independent tests show an addition to load time of about 0.09 seconds compared to 0.18 for Yoast. Built-in migration from other plugins takes a few minutes. 30-day money-back guarantee.

Cons

The number of settings can be confusing upon first acquaintance, especially in advanced mode. A relatively young product with a shorter stability history than Yoast. Units for AI content generation (Content AI) are limited even in the PRO plan. No bot blocker for AI crawlers. Compatibility issues with some page builders are known.

Who It's For (and Who It Isn't)

Rank Math makes logical sense for those who manage multiple sites and do not want to pay for each separately. One PRO plan for all personal projects provides real savings compared to Yoast's per-site model. It is well-suited for technically savvy users who value flexibility and control over which specific features are active.

For online stores, it is attractive that the WooCommerce module is included in the base version without extra charges. For new sites, the free version of Rank Math covers most real needs.

However, there are scenarios where Rank Math may not be the best choice. For absolute beginners, the abundance of settings in advanced mode can be confusing. Yoast's barrier to entry appears to be lower. AI content generation units (Content AI) are limited even in paid plans, and with active use, the limit runs out quickly. There is no separate module for blocking AI bots, although this is partially solved via the built-in robots.txt file editor. A detailed comparison of all three plugins is published in a separate article.
